MESA-05: Control Strategies for Mechatronic Systems
Objectives:
Control systems are a fundamental component of mechatronic systems because they ensure that the system behaves as intended, maintaining stability and accuracy despite many challenges. As mechatronic systems may operate in harsh environments and exhibit complex nonlinear behaviors, robustness is also essential to ensure that the system can respond to disturbances and tolerate model mismatches. Additionally, mechatronic systems usually require real-time control, where decisions and actions must be taken within strict time constraints and with limited computational power. MESA-07: Smart Sensors and Actuators in Mechatronics
Objectives:
In the last few decades, much effort has been directed towards the development of mechatronic devices capable of interacting safely/effectively with unstructured environments and humans. On one hand, these research activities highlighted the limits of traditional sensorymotor technologies in terms of flexibility and responsiveness to ever changing scenarios. On the other hand, the fascinating world of smart sensors and actuators is still far from meeting strict industrial requirements such as long-term reliability, damage-tolerance, ease-of-usage and cost-effectiveness. The aim of this session is to present advances in the field of Smart Actuators and Smart Sensors. Current and future challenges for the optimal design, modelling, control and technological implementation of the next-generation adaptive mechatronic systems will be treated.
